WiFi stands for Wireless Fidelity, is a wireless networking technology to connect computers over a network without wires. Wi-Fi used to define any of the wireless technology in the IEEE 802.11 specification including the wireless protocols 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g.
WiFi uses high frequency radio signals to send and receive data over short distances.
What is WiFi Hotspot?
WiFi Hotspot is a location in which wireless internet access exists and is available for use to consumers. You will find WiFi access available in Starbucks, Airport, Terminals, Hotels, Library, Communities and other public places. In some cases the wireless access is free, and in others, wireless carriers charge for WiFi usage.
How does WiFi works?
The wireless adapter of a computer coverts data into radio signals and transmits the signals over an antenna. The transmitting antenna is generally connected to a DSL or a LAN-based Internet connection. A wireless router receives and decodes the transmitted radio waves. It then relays this information to the Internet via an ethernet connection. Typically, the router is connected to a high-speed modem using an ethernet cable.
The wireless router in turn receives and encodes information from the Internet, and transmits it to the computer's wireless adapter in the form of a radio signal. Once the wireless router is connected, you'll be able to receive a wireless signal on a given device, so long as the device you wish to connect has a wireless adapter.
The wireless signal typically has a range of 300 feet. The connection speeds gets slower as the distance between the computer and the router increases.
